You get brown spots on your skin as you get older

Brown spots

Fact or fiction?

Age spots have nothing to do with age. Both young and old people can get them. The darker discolouration of the skin is the result of years of unprotected exposure to sunlight. So they should really be called sun spots.

What can you do about sun spots?

The saying ‘prevention is better than cure’ really does apply to these brown spots caused by the sun. Here are a few tips for how best to prevent and reduce them:

  • Use a sun filter of at least SPF 30 every day of the year to prevent new spots from appearing.
  • As well as your face and neck, apply it to your hands, neck, arms and chest. These areas are often exposed to UV rays.
  • Also choose a product with ingredients with proven effectiveness against skin discolouration, such as niacinamide, arbutin, Vitamin C, azelaic acid, acetylglucosamine and liquorice root extract.

Paula’s Choice has various effective products in our range that combat pigment formation and help to reduce existing brown spots.
