How to use

Lightly soak a cotton pad with the Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant and apply over the entire face, including the eye area (avoid the lower lash line and eyelids). Do not rinse. Start slowly: Apply every other day and note skin's response. Then use up to twice daily. Apply the 10% Azelaic Acid Booster to the face and neck, once or twice daily. Use alone or add to your favourite serum or night moisturiser. For daytime use, follow with a moisturiser that contains a broad spectrum sun cream rated SPF 30 or higher.

Here's a step-by-step of your morning & evening skincare application.
Step 1: Cleanser
Wet your face and apply a small amount with gentle, circular motions. Rinse well. To remove heavy makeup, repeat or use with a clean, wet washcloth.
Step 2: Toner
With your fingertips or a cotton pad, gently apply over the face and neck. Do not rinse.
Step 3 Exfoliants
Gently apply with your fingertips or a cotton pad over the face and neck, including the eye area (avoid lash line and eyelids). Do not rinse. Start slowly: Apply every other day and note your skin's response. Then use up to twice daily.
Step 4 Treatments
Dispense a pearl-sized amount to your hand and apply once or twice daily to the face, neck and eye area.
Step 5 Moisturisers
Use a day moisturiser as the last step in your morning skincare routine and apply liberally at least 15 minutes before stepping into sun exposure. As always, it's best to reapply every two hours once the skin has been exposed to direct sunlight. For a night moisturiser, apply a small amount once or twice daily to the face and neck.

FAQ

Most asked

Good to know before you start using your exfoliant

It's best to gradually build up the use of a BHA product. Start by using your exfoliant once every other day and then increase usage to once or twice daily based on your skin’s response. You need to experiment a bit to see what suits your skin best. During the day, always use a moisturiser with a broad-spectrum sunscreen rated SPF 30 or greater. Your skin will be slightly more sensitive to sunlight when using an exfoliant, so the chance of sunburn and sun damage is slightly higher.

Is 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant a toner?

Given 2% BHA Liquid’s fluid texture, many people think of it as a toner, but its formulation isn’t meant to do what traditional toners do. Instead, the toner consistency of this liquid exfoliates built-up dead skin, unclogs pores and hydrates to boost glow. Paula’s Choice toners add vital skin-replenishing ingredients immediately after cleansing and before exfoliating. This hydrates, refreshes and rebalances skin. Our toners also work to remove the last traces of make-up and sunscreen that may have been missed during cleansing.

Why does 2% BHA Liquid feel sticky and kind of greasy on my face?

If 2% BHA Liquid feels sticky, you may be using too much product. Try using a coin-sized amount applied in a thin layer. The greasy feel can be attributed to the high levels of glycol in this product (glycol helps the BHA penetrate the surface layers of skin and works as a water-binding agent).

Is azelaic acid an exfoliant?

Azelaic acid isn't strictly an exfoliant in the same way as a BHA or AHA formula is. While it does offer mild exfoliating effects, it’s not intended to take the place of your normal exfoliant step. Instead, azelaic acid’s robust benefits complement what an AHA or BHA exfoliant can do for smoother, calmer skin with fewer blemish marks.

Is azelaic acid an AHA?

Azelaic acid is not an AHA (alpha hydroxy acid) nor is it a BHA (beta hydroxy acid). Azelaic acid is classified as a dicarboxylic acid, which offers unique skin-calming properties.

What does azelaic acid do for hyperpigmentation?

Azelaic acid visibly fades areas of hyperpigmentation, including post-breakout marks and uneven tone, by disrupting the pathways that trigger discolouration. Additionally, by calming factors within the skin, visible symptoms associated with hyperpigmentation become less noticeable.
